In recent weeks Manchester United have been in the headlines for multiple reasons. Both positive and negative. The signing of Bruno Fernandes raised hopes within the United fanbase. However, an unfortunate attack on Ed Woodward’s family home dampened the mood.
The January transfer window was key to United’s season. It was clear United needed improvement to gain Champions League qualification. United did manage to land long-term target Bruno Fernandes however, their search for a striker was simply embarrassing.
United clearly needed more depth in attacking areas, specifically down the middle. It was believed young prospect Erling Braut Haaland was on his way to United. Unfortunately, the young Norwegian chose German giants Borussia Dortmund.
Fortunately for United, they did land a striker, Odion Ighalo. The signing was extremely underwhelming and will have a minimal impact on the remainder of the season.
In other news, Ed Woodward’s family home was attacked. The attack came from apparent United fans, who were unhappy about the current state of the club. United fans have the right to complain, however the behaviour shown was disgraceful.
There is nothing wrong with chanting in the stadium and protests, although there is no place for violence. The club is in a poor state as it stands, and this attack simply brings more negativity to the club which is not needed.
The attack on Woodward’s house has come under some speculation. There have been multiple reports that the attack may have been planned. If this was the case there will need to be a serious investigation.
Whilst the season does have time to go, plans for next season haven’t gone unnoticed. As all United fans know Mauricio Pochettino is currently without a job. Pochettino has recently claimed he would love a return to the Premier League and United is the clear target.
Pochettino would be an incredible replacement if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was to be sacked. Pochettino possesses an extraordinary amount of tactical knowledge and this is what United is lacking under Solskjaer.
The most recent news regarding United would have to be Fred’s comments on his teammates. The Brazilian may have been rash in his comments, although this proves to all United fans that there are serious problems.
The midfielder explained how the group needs to improve and it is surprising. He claims that the squad plays as individuals which is poor for a Premier League side. Due to the players’ actions, this demonstrates there is a poor mentality within the group and this is clear whilst out on the pitch.
