According to recent reports, Chelsea have made a formal inquiry for Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski. The Polish superstar is reportedly upset at having missed out on becoming the Bundesliga top-scorer, with that accolade going eventually to his former teammate at Borussia Dortmund, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Bringing in the Bayern hitman, who once scored five goals inside nine minutes, will no doubt confirm Chelsea’s credentials as Antonio Conte looks to build a squad capable of challenging for Champions League glory.
In recent weeks, the Blues have also been linked with Romelu Lukaku of Everton, but are unwilling to meet the Toffees’ £100 million valuation of the player.
Some reports yesterday suggested that Conte would prefer to capture Alvaro Morata, although the Madrid striker is reported to have agreed personal terms with rivals Manchester United.
Lewandowski’s signature would definitely send shockwaves across the footballing world, as the Pole was earlier linked with a move, instead, to the Spanish capital. However, if a serious bid is launched from the Blues, Bayern will likely consider it as they have the versatile Thomas Muller lined up to replace him.
This move could also help fast-forward Diego Costa’s exit from Stamford Bridge, as the Brazil-born Spain international is still craving a return to work under his former boss Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid.
